The Swan

"As native wild birds, swans enjoy statutory protection under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and it is an offence to intentionally injure, take or kill a wild swan.
The Act protects the eggs and nests of swans. It is an offence to take or possess the egg of a wild mute swan, or to damage or destroy the nest of a mute swan whilst in use or being built. Unfortunately, swans and their nests are sometimes a target for vandals."
I saw this swan nurturing her two eggs near to my town centre last weekend. Similarly, to others that passed this rare sight along the river, I took a couple of photos with my handy mobile phone, admiring the beauty of nature at first hand. Luckily the mother was caring for her two eggs enough not to notice the flock of people passing by.

I am hoping that these eggs will be safe as they are cherished by their mother and when they hatch they have the opportunity to live a free life. Our town has had its fair share of drunken idiots cause trouble... hopefully this is not what they will get their kicks from!
